Monday’s Celeb Must Haves – Coachella 2014

Beyonce // Cara Delevigne // Kylie Jenner

Beyonce // Cara Delevingne // Kylie Jenner

Here in the UK we have been delighted with the sun over the long Easter weekend. However, whilst looking through the numerous articles and online pictures of the celebs soaking up the Coachella rays, we should not blame ourselves for feeling a pang of jealously! We may not be able easily experience the LA desert heat, but we can certainly get ourselves ready for the festival season. Here is my round up of the best celeb must have’s from Coachella and some hints at where to steal their style!

Let’s start with Queen B herself who made a surprise appearance! Beyonce swung and sung her way through her sister Solange’s performance of “Losing You” and looked cool and colourful whilst doing so!

The print is wonderful on this skirt and top combo (its all about the combo’s at the moment!) and the unique cut on the top I love – a little bit different from the usual crop tops that we see in stores and online at the moment. A slick finish with the pointed ankle boots and the simple fedora make this outfit standout whislt also managing to steal a little class.

I’ve found this great flower combo from ASOS; the print has the purple element like Beyonce’s does and I think the cut out detail on the back of the top is a cute little touch. These boots from Kurt Geiger would not only look fantsatic with this outfit but would go with SO much other stuff – And to finish it off – a classic fedora from Topshop!

Moving on to our next lady; Miss Cara Delevingne. Cara is the epitome of carefree and casual dressing – really perfect when you are walking around a desert at a music festival!

Cara Delevingne Coachella 2014

I love these red shorts against the aztec style printed top and her black high tops are retro  and cool. Teamed with a black accessories – she’s a real cool Coachella babe.

Here are some fantastic online choices to capture Cara’s style; the shorts are a simple but classic style from TOPSHOP whilst the top is a more expensive piece from the Essential Antwerp Beach Collection, a brand that started in – you guessed it – Antwerp, Belgium. You can purchase from the Essentiel Antwerp online store in Euros or from ASOS for a pound purchase. I think these shorts with this tee are a really fantastic duo! For the most comfortable festival shoe, grab yourselves these Nike Dunk Sky Hi Trainers – wear them for a while before you go and your friends will be envious of your blisterless toes! The accessories make this outfit; the watch is special little item from Vivienne Westwood – definitely one for my wish list, the rucksack is from Corsia as is made from such a soft leather that it will get better with age, and the sunglasses are a steal at £12 from ASOS.

Lastly, I have chosen the youngest of the Kardashian Clan – Miss Kylie Jenner. Kylie’s Coachella style is a massive hop, skip and jump away from those of her oldest Kardashian sisters’; weathered demim, studded bumbag and a t-shirt bearing Mr Bowie screams festival cool – perfect for the desert party.

Kylie Jenner Coachella 2014

This David Bowie t-shirt is on my list for the festival season for sure and these distressed black denim shorts will be incredibly wearable and are in the ASOS sale. Dorothy Perkins’ version of the classic Chelsea Boot are fantastic and a great purchase for all year round. This Miss Selfridge Camel Fedora is so much like Kylie’s and this choker from Rock ‘N Rose is a wonderful way to feminise this androgynous outfit.  For me what makes this outfit, is the quirky bumbag or as they like to say in the US – the fannypack; get this one from the one and only Nasty Gal.

I hope that these outfits can give you some inspiration for the festival season here in the UK!  Would love to know what you are wearing!

Snakeskin Look Skirt and Leather Tshirt – Bill + Mar // TOPSHOP // Kurt Geiger

Bill + Mar

Skirt – Bill + Mar // Leather T-shirt – Topshop // Shoes – Carvela Kurt Geiger // Necklace – Topshop

Bill + Mar

Last Year I bought this skirt from Bill + Mar and love it so much I am still wearing it this season. I’ve teamed it here with my favourite tshirt from TOPSHOP. I love wearing leather pieces with more femine styles to create a tough but soft look, and I love an outfit even more when it can be revogued from day to night, winter to summer.

Kimberley Walsh in Bill + Mar

Kimberley Walsh in Bill + Mar

Bill + Mar are the youngest brand that I have featured so far on my blog, having started in 2010. I love the designers’ intentions to always keep the fit of their pieces snug to a woman’s shape just like this skirt; it all about the female silouette. Kimberley Walsh was seen wearing this skirt in a different colour at the Girls Aloud 10 year anniversary launch and I think you’ll agree, Bill + Mar succeeds in flatering her enviable figure. The matching crop tops to the skirt can be worn for a more daring look!

Luckily for you guys, Bill + Mar have this style of skirt in the sale at the moment, along with the matching crop tops. I can’t recommend this style enough; such a wearable item! Can be worn in so many different ways; also check out how Rosie Fortescue from Made in Chelsea wears it! You can buy Bill + Mar directly from their own website OR get down to TOPSHOP in Oxford Street where they are now stocking the new Bill + Mar Collection!

TOPSHOP Leather T-shirt

TOPSHOP Leather T-shirt

The T-shirt I’m wearing is now in the sale, and TOPSHOP also have a couple of other options that would look great with this outfit: I love the sheer panel on the t shirt, or for a more simple look why not try the cropped top? My necklace is also TOPSHOP, and I wear it with so many outfits. The gold and silver mix really stands out against the black leather . Check out these options that do the same trick!

Kurt Geiger Shoes

Kurt Geiger Shoes

My shoes are Carvella and have served me SO well. I love the height, the straps but most of all they are comfortable; if I wear these on a night out they never need to come off mid dance! We all have a pair of favourite dancing shoes that can be worn for years and years…. sometimes sticking to them and taking care of them is better than purchasing a new pair! However if I WERE to purchase a new pair from Kurt Geiger (they are definitely worthy brand – their shoes really do last!) I really love this option: THE GAIN. So classy with the pointed toe… I am seriously tempted!

I hope you like this look! I wore it for my bday last year!

Next Summer New-In Collection Event

Next New In Summer Collection Event

NEXT have got it going on this season and you better make sure you don’t miss out!

Next Summer Collection

Next Summer Collection 2014

I had the great fortune to be invited to the super swanky Soho Hotel to preview NEXT’s new collection at their NEW-IN event The suite looked beautiful; pastel, tribal and floral prints popping out against the London night skyline. It was easy to feel how this collection could fit and work into my own wardrobe. With a leopard here and a swirly candy candy cane there, the atmosphere of the event fully reflected the fun and fresh appeal of the pieces.

The other ladies were getting their glamour on by getting their hair styled in lovely waterfall braids whilst I had my nails painted to match one of the new prints featured in the NEW-IN collection. The amazing nail artists managed to paint such details flowers on my nails and I have had so many compliments on them throughout this week!

Whichever trend has caught your eye this summer, NEXT’s new collection has got everything to satisfy your wandering shopping eye. Featuring fresh prints, pretty pastels, trendy espadrilles, sexy sandals and touch of jungle fever, NEXT has delightfully created a collection that features all of this summer’s key trends. But more importantly, they haven’t failed to ensure that their pieces are accessible, wearable and can slip stylishly into any lady’s wardrobe.

The swimwear captured the global and tribal prints that featured in Valentino and Pucci’s key looks this season.

As the Oscar de la Renta collection accented floral patters, the new NEXT collection sees beautiful floral bursts too, with dresses, jumpsuits and a wonderful pair of pointed stilettos.

Pastels pieces with pleats and in wonderful textures are a crucial part of this collection, rounding up the looks seen on the Burberry Prorsum catwalk.

For me the most clever way that NEXT have brought the catwalk to the highstreet is with their demin look floral print – this is print that I decided to go with on my nails (in the picture above!) It works wonderfully as the print for one of their key summer dresses, and brings the look of DKNY and MaxMara to a widespread audience.

Their shoe collection really impressed me; the espadrilles are a sure way to do casual but chic this summer, the pointed stiletos will take a day outfit right on into the night and a very special pair of white strappy sandals caught MY eye…. definitely on my WISH LIST (and the matching white handbag wouldn’t go a miss too!)

Oxblood Leather Trench Coat with Fur Collar – Vintage Opera Montreal/Peekaboo Vintage

Image

Oxblood Leather Trenchcoat – Vintage Opera Monreal/Peekaboo Vintage // Silk Shirt – Episode // Jeans – American Apparel // Boots – Boohoo

Part of my ReVogueing quest has recently got me trailing through a collection of fantastic vintage boutiques. Over the Christmas months Peekaboo Vintage, settled on Chiswick High Road and I found this amazing leather trench! I love its 70’s feel, its soft leather, the way it fits into my back , but most of all I love the fur collar – cosy but striking! Even though we are supposed to coming into Spring/Summer 14 now, the weather has definitely kept me in a wintery mood, and the colour of this trench coat has been the perfect way to warm an outfit up! Originally this coat was made by the 60’s brand Opera Montreal. I couldn’t find much out about this brand but saw some great pieces on eBay – check them out.

Boots – Boohoo

To stay with the 70’s vibe I dug out my favourite Boohoo platform chelsea boots! Heeled boots have been my saviour this winter and these are fantastic for casual days and party nights! They don’t have these exact ones in stock but these are my picks from this seasons choice:

Shirt – Episode

A must have for every female and gent’s wardrobe is a white, silk shirt. I found this one in my mum’s wardrobe! She hadn’t worn it for years and I really appreciated the detailing on the high neck; the buttons are particularly sweet.

Image

Jeans – American Apparel

Last, but certainly not least, my jeans; the American Apparel Easy Jean. They haven’t photographed well unfortunately, but these are my all time favourite fit! I have never found buying jeans a pleasurable experience but once I found these, my days of trailing around denim stores were over. They have a fantastic stretch, are high waisted so perfect for tucking shirts into or wearing with a crop top and don’t go baggy on the legs. I have them in two other colours and can’t wait to get more for the summer!!

I hope you love this trench and outfit as much as I do! A great vintage find, combined with a wonderful discovery from my mums wardrobe and a couple of all time favourites with the boots and jeans! If you’re looking for a trench like the one I’m wearing, I found these two when I had a gander on the Peekaboo Vintage Website. The sleeves are fantastic on both! Check here for the black and here for the tan. You can also get a selection of Peekaboo Vintage in Topshop!

Red Tartan Jacket – Vintage Mondi

Tartan Coat - Vintage Mondi // Boots - Russell and Bromley // T Shirt - Topshop // Trousers - Forever Unique.
Tartan Coat – Vintage Mondi // Boots – Russell and Bromley // T Shirt – Topshop // Hair Clip – ASOS

This season’s Autumn/Winter saw me looking everywhere for my ideal tartan or checked jacket and before I had finished my search I found this absolute beauty in my mum’s attic! Mondi was formed in 1967 in Germany and was originally just a knitwear house. However it went on to produce a full retail range that marketed it clothing worldwide and was extremely popular in 1970’s and 80’s. I would love to find more Mondi pieces! I love the green velvet detail on the pockets, collar and sleeves,  the stand out gold buttons and the statement 80’s shoulder pads!

Suede Over the Knee Boots - Russell and Bromley

Suede Over the Knee Boots – Russell and Bromley

Here I have teamed the jacket with a favourite pair of Russell and Bromley Boots, a company which always perfectly balances style with quality. The fact that they’re over-the-knee makes for such easy wear too!

Topshop studded broken heart Tshirt

Studded Broken Heart Tshirt – Topshop

I wanted to add a modern twist to this outfit so delved into my wardrobe and found this great Tshirt from Topshop. This was a popular piece when it first hit the shops and I love it when you can revisit items of clothing and take them from one season to another. Check out Topshop’s new season Tshirts here!

Studded Gold Hairslide - ASOS

Studded Gold Hairslide – ASOS

I’ve grown very attached to this studded hairslide from ASOS. I find it hard to track down hair accessories that don’t fall apart after a few used but ASOS have a fantastic selection and still have a 70% off sale – make sure you find yourself a bargain!

Hope that everyone is starting to revisit old pieces, locating wonderful finds in their mum’s wardrobes and ReVoguing!

ReVoguing Our Wardrobes

ReVogue

Fashion is wonderful. For some it is an art form, for others an essential form of self expression, but for most the way we choose to dress is an interpretation of oneself. Although fashion trends may seem like a modern phenomena, with blogs, tv shows and magazines reporting on the ever- changing styles and season essentials, for centuries folks have been keen to look their best. Eager to been seen wearing the latest look, for generations we have spent our well earned pennies to make sure we’re not left looking like yesterday’s fashion news.  How wide should my bustle be? Are my cork heels the right height? Is my lace ruff too ostentatious? Every generation has its fashion fads and frets!

Today is no different.

However, how we get the latest looks has changed in recent decades; we now live in a time where fashion and clothes are extremely dispensable. With retailers offering the latest trends at extremely low prices we very quickly purchase, wear and dispose of our clothes.

Gone are the days where money is saved for weeks or months to purchase a garment; maybe a piece made from expensive fabric that will ensure it will last for years, maybe even be passed on to the next generation. Less and less do we see people wearing hand- made garments, designed and made themselves or by family. Fewer fabrics will be chosen with a certain design in mind, made to fit a woman’s shape perfectly and made to work with lots of other pieces in the wardrobe. You might think that considering the financial situation our country is in, we would start to value well- made pieces that will last and honour the skill that goes into making them.

I have grown up experiencing the perks of being the daughter of a dress maker. I was lucky to have a mum who revelled in the opportunity to make fancy dress costumes from scratch. If I couldn’t find a specific garment in the shops she used her skills to make me the perfect item. The best part – my mum kept a few of the wonderful pieces that she made for herself when she was my age, items that I now fit into and enjoy. These pieces fit me the best, travel the best, wash the best and most importantly are the most individual pieces I own. How special.

Recycling fashion is another tip I have inherited from my mum. Give away any item that you no longer use, unless it is going to be a fashion classic. It might be the perfect item for someone else but it’s not doing much hanging in your wardrobe! To rework items of clothes – if you don’t have the skills to sew or change clothes, take them to a tailor to get lengthened, shortened, taken in – be imaginative, it will most probably be cheaper and less time- consuming than looking for an item that isn’t quite what you’re looking for and doesn’t fit exactly. Lastly have a search through your mum or grandma’s wardrobes (before they get to the charity shop!). I guarantee you will find items that are on trend now and I know from experience that mums get  enjoyment from seeing their daughters reworking items they enjoyed years before

Although making clothes can often be a cheaper way to dress, it takes time, and time is money. After reading many inspiring fashion blogs, I have now decided to jump in and create my own. I hope to be able to report on not only my favourite new pieces and brands but also how I am reworking old items that I find in vintage shops or in the attic. The idea will be to create new outfits for less money! I would love to hear from you and how you are doing too! Let’s try and make our wardrobes look fresh and new with a hint of classic vogue! Let’s ReVogue our wardrobes!
